Average review score:

Loved it!
I read this book to my seventh grade religious education class. They loved it. It tells the story of a 12 year old girl faced with following her faith or following her friends. After being visited by an angel and meeting all of the "people" that are helping her make the decision she is more able to make the right one. It showed the children that they do not make these decisions alone. There are many helpers working on our side.

Canon Law and Cloistered Women: Periculoso and Its Commentators, 1298-1545
Published in Textbook Binding by Catholic Univ of Amer Pr (July, 1999)
Author: Elizabeth Makowski
Average review score:

A clear and readable account of a turbulent period
Elizabeth Makowski has written a superb account of a crucial but little-known Church edict, the 1298 papal decretal of Pope Boniface VIII that is known as "Periculoso" (perilous) after the first word of the document; the decretal ruled on the status of women religious and proved quite controversial. As Makowski shows, the papal ruling was enforced in widely different ways, and sometimes not enforced at all, with both the enforcers and the non-enforcers claiming to have the force of canon law behind their arguments, and leaving many devoted women religious stranded somewhere in between. Makowski's research has clearly been extensive, and her writing is blessedly jargon-free.

The Castle on the Hill
Published in Audio Cassette by Books on Tape (January, 1941)
Author: Elizabeth Goudge
Average review score:

Outstanding!
Elizabeth Goudge is my favorite author, and this is one of my favorites by her. If you like Rosamunde Pilcher you will love Goudge! This book was written during the war (WWII), and takes place during the same time period. It was so interesting to read, knowing that the author was in the midst of that horrible event, not knowing how it would end. Like all of her stories, it is filled with love and the eternal optimism of the human spirit.

We had four Elizabeth Miller CAT AND DOG books when my daughter Caitlin was growing up (she's now 21). But *this* one was my favorite, and I can still quote whole passages from memory. A true gem!

The Cat Next Door (Elizabeth Koda-Callan's Magic Charm Books, 6th)
Published in Hardcover by Workman Publishing Company (November, 1993)
Author: Elizabeth Koda-Callan
Average review score:

Once there was a little girl who wanted a kitten!
Elizabeth Koda-Callan is a designer, illustrator, and best-selling children's book author. She lives in New York City with her cat named Cinnamon. She has beautifully illustrated a story of a little girl who's dream comes true. On the front cover, a silver cat charm is worn on a silver chain by "the little girl." This charm is real and can be removed.

My nieces have two adorable kittens and we all love cats, so we enjoy reading books about cats, cats and more cats. I found this book was an excellent way to teach young girls the responsibility of taking care of a cat or kittens.

"The little girl" in the story is given the responsibility of looking after her neighbours cat. Soon she learns that cats don't come when called. She has to develop a certain degree of patience in order to wait for the silver tabby named Clover to learn to like her. She discovers that cats love to chase things and soon she and Clover are the best of friends.

At the end of the story, "the little girl" finds that her patience pays off. When she returns to see Clover and bring her a gift, Clover in fact has a gift for "the little girl." I loved this book because it teaches and entertains.
